Policy Communications & Issues Management

Karen Hanretty is a communications and marketing professional with more than 20 years of integrated communications and public policy experience working with corporations, associations and non-profits. Karen specializes in influencing policymakers, voters, consumers and other decision-makers via multimedia issue advocacy which breaks down complex issues into visual content that audiences understand. Her decades of experience working with traditional media combined with her skillset in graphic and digital design, allow Karen to help companies and organizations communicate directly to a broad audience.   


Karen previously served as spokeswoman and press secretary for a number of political candidates (Arnold Schwarzenegger for Governor, Fred Thompson for President, as well as state and local campaigns), the Communications Director at the National Congressional Campaign Committee (NRCC), Managing Director at the largest independent PR firm in Washington, DC, and served as Vice President of Public Affairs for the American Beverage Association - a trade and lobby group for some of the most recognizable brands in the world.


Karen’s significant issues management experience has made her a highly effective media trainer and popular political contributor for CNN, Fox News and MSNBC.  


When she’s not influencing decision-makers, Karen can be found tinkering with a roast chicken recipe and wrangling her corgis.
